Elite Coloured Suri, Suri Alpaca, High Quality Fleece, Strathbogie

Here’s something I have been musing about for a long while.  We all know that the coloured animals – both huacaya and suri are of inferior quality to the whites – due to the culling of coloured animals over the years of breeding in Peru and the need to bring in inferior animals to reintroduce the colour.  OK, I can accept that.  However, in my 5 years of undertaking Embryo Transfer, I have noticed this – when a group of cria are born, from the same parents, the lighter ones are always better quality than the darker ones.  Why? They all have the same genetic parents. Is it complete coincidence, or could there be some linkage between colour and quality – it doesn’t seem possible, but…

SRSB was the major sponsor for the Suri judging at the 2009 Colourbration Show & Sale.  With a ringside ‘lounge’ decked out in purple and red, we were hard to miss!

Our display site included samples of suri fleece and yarn in all colours, as well as information on the SRSB stable of stud males.

We had a great response from both other breeders and the public and have begun plans for the 2010 display – bigger and better than this year’s – watch out!

Success at the Nationals

Now that we have our News Blog up and running we can do a little bragging!

Baarrooka, Jaegar and Tularosa come 1st, 2nd and 3rd in a strong Junior brown female class at the Nationals. We believe this result (in addition to numerous other ribbons, including championship) is an indication of the benefits we have gained from working together as part of the Strathbogie Ranges Suri Breeders.

We have big plans for the coming year which we are confident will cement the quality of coloured suris being produced via the three studs.
